Casino Blackjack game play

Casino blackjack appears to be one of the most straightforward casino games that there is; get dealt some cards and the player (including the dealer) who gets closest to 21 points, without busting over that number, wins.  As with so many things, appearances can be deceptive.  There are in fact a number of rules and conventions present in casino blackjack that will catch the uninitiated off-guard.  So to avoid any embarrassing situations when you are next sitting around the green felt bear the following in mind:

In casino blackjack you never touch the dealer’s hands, as this would constitute a breach of security.  If for example you wish to purchase chips, simply put your money on the table and he will take care of the rest, changing your money for the value of playing chips.  Also don’t expect change, a casino blackjack table should not be confused for a bank teller!

When making a bet for example, there will be a box or a circle somewhere before you, on the table.  The correct form here is to place your bet in the appropriate circle or box.  If you wish to wager with multiple chips, place them on the table in descending order of value, i.e. the highest value chip closest to the table.  In the same way that in pro-chess you cannot change your mind of which piece to use once you have touched it, in casino blackjack, once your bet is down on the table that’s it, there is no going back.
